| "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." - Forrest Gump's momma
Life has definitely given me quite the interesting assortment of chocolates...But the best and sweetest one yet has been Darrin. Life had definitely given me a few doozy chocolates...some that had landed me working at Wal-Mart, December of 2015. Being the new girl and working for such a large corporation it was a chore trying to meet and learn all of my co-workers names.
After working there for about a month or two, a co-worker came up and asked me if I was seeing anyone. I thought it was a bit strange because this co-worker is a girl, but in this day and age, you never know. Then she said, not trying to be creepy or anything...someone wanted me to ask. I didn't know her very well...I didn't know anyone very well. So had I asked her who, it probably wouldn't have done me any good. Being so caught off guard by all of it I just replied, "no".
Another month or so went on and I was still mystified as to who had inquired about me. It wasn't until about a week after my birthday that I'm in the back hallway at work, getting into my locker, when I kind of vaguely hear someone talking. I don't think much of it because not many people talked to me. After listening to the rhythm of the speech pattern I realize there is a missing party. That's when I looked up and around trying to see who this person is. I see down at the far end of the hallway a tall, dark haired, handsome guy that I only slightly recognized as an electronics associate. He is staring at me, and that's when I realize he had been talking to me this whole time. I apologized and asked what he had said. He starts moving in a little closer to me. He says that there is a group of coworkers going bowling. As he's saying this he starts talking faster and faster and mumbling more and more. I finally deduce when and where this bowling night is taking place, and as I am telling him I get off work at 11 that night but can come out once I'm off, he is already walking backwards away from me...I thought it was fairly odd, I didn't even know his name.
The next day, when I came into work, I had to ask around as to who this mystery guy is, and if in fact, there is a bowling night planned for Thursday. I finally find out his name is Darrin, and that yes, there is a bowling event that night. So Thursday night arrives, I pack a change of clothes and take them with me to work. As soon as I get off, I rush to the bathroom to change, and head over to Andy B's.
There were so many people there. I think that night, the Wal-Mart crew took up about three or four bowling lanes. Of these people I had only talked to about two or three of them. I see Darrin is on the first lane with no empty seats. So I sit next to a co-worker I do know, which is in a different lane. After about five to ten minutes I'm finally asked to come over to his lane. (Some of the other people moved so I could sit.) I discovered just how shy and quite Darrin is that night. Now, it is very loud in there and doesn't make for the best place to get to know someone...but we did end up learning a bit about each other. Since Andy B's closes at midnight on Thursdays, we had less than an hour to talk to each other.
As the whole group was walking to their cars I asked Darrin if he wanted to go do something the rest of the night. He however had to be at work at 7AM. I said okay and started to walk away. He came up to me and gave me his phone number so we could hang out another time. He didn't have his phone on him so I called the number, let it ring a couple times, then told him he now has my number. I get home and its been a couple hours and I thought he would have at least texted me when he got to his phone, just confirming he got my number or had a good time...anything. So I decided to text him and said, "Just making sure my call went through so you have my number". I got a reply back saying, "I think you've got the wrong number". I was flabbergasted. Here, he had asked me to the bowling event, had what seemed to be a good time, but then gave me the wrong number?! I was going to have to call him out on that.
Unfortunately I didn't work the next couple of days. When I finally came back I was going to find him and give him a piece of my mind. Well, I didn't see him anywhere. So I'm up at the service desk working, when I see him in line. He gets to the front of the line and another coworker finishes first and tries to call him up. He states he's waiting for me. So I finish with my customer and call him up. He walks up all shy like, stammers a bit and says, "I think I gave you the wrong number, here's my number", then slides me a piece of paper and walks off. I open it up and it reads, "I think I gave you the wrong number, here's my number ....". I was kind of ticked I didn't get to confront him...but I was really impressed that he came in on his day off just to find me and give me his correct number.
After that we started seeing each other frequently and its been the best time of my life. |
